SEBREN DEAN, 85, of Branchland, WV died Tuesday, July 13, 2010 in St. Mays Medical Center, Huntington, WV.  He was born April 1, 1925 at Branchland, WV, a son of the late Henry and Ella Williamson Dean.  

He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Ivory Brunty, Beatrice Hargis and Stella Von Dean; three brothers, Hairm Dean, Arvil Dean and John Riley Dean.

     He is survived by: two brothers, Burl Dean (Dorothy) of Branchland, WV and Darrell Dean (Marge) of Prichard, WV; three sisters, Mary Shepherd of Branchland, WV, Martha Hager of Columbus, OH and Helen Aliff (Carl) of Twinsburg, OH; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends called from 6pm to 8pm Thursday at the funeral home; funeral service held 11:00am Friday, July 16,  at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin, WV with Ray Miller officiating; burial followed in Warrick Cemetery, Branchland, WV.  


ROBERT LEE ADKINS SR., 66, Big Creek, died We., July 8, 2010 at Logan Reg. Med. Ctr.; born April 21,1944 in Mt. Gay, son of the late Earl & Cora (Frye) Adkins; also predeceased by:  wife, Geraldine Adkins; son, Johnny Adkins; bros., Clifford Adkins & Arnold Griffith; father- & mother-in-law, James B. & Beulah (Watts) Mills.

Member of Gospel Truth IBC, loved car shows, picnics, family reunions, gardening, gospel music, doing work outside, visiting family and friends and especially attending church.

ROBERT LAN CHAPMAN, 69, Salt Rock, died Tu., July 13, 2010 at home; born Aug. 2, 1940, at Branchland, son of the late Lan Roy & Blanche Gertrude Cox Chapman. 

Survivors: wife of 48 years, Velma Davis Chapman; children, Kimberly Collins & Robert Dwayne Chapman; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sis.-in-law, Patricia Mills; daughters-in-law, Vicky Foster & Amanda Clagg.

ROBERT L. “Red” GROSS, 87, 5 & 6 Holden, died Mo. July 12, 2010, with family; born April 13, 1923, in Harlan, KY, son of the late Ray & Ethyl Stringer Gross Conley; also predeceased by: wife of 52 years, Marie Gross; bro., Tom Howard of Hazard, KY.

A Pacific Theatre WW II Vet. & retired from Island Ck. Coal Co. No. 28 mines.

JEANETTA MILDRED “Nettie” (Adkins) KING, 84, Hamlin died Mo., July 12, 2010; born Feb. 3, 1926, dau. of the late Lula Bryant Adkins; also predeceased by: husband, Melvin Scott King; daughters, Betty Ann & Brenda Kay King.

She was a retired librarian for Lincoln Co. Public Library; held memberships in American Legion Post #111 Ladies Auxiliary & Peaceful Valley FWBC.

LEWIS JAMES LEGG, 90, Summersville, died Tu., July 13, 2010, at home; born Apr., 16, 1920 in Kanawha Co., son of the late Raymond Calvin & Verna Margaret Murphy Legg; also predeceased by: wife, Virginia B. Legg; sibs., Charles & Donna Patterson.

Lewis was raised on Salmon’s Ck., Nicholas Co.; enjoyed hunting, fishing and his apple orchard; retired engineer from DuPont, Belle plant & member of Summersville Bapt. Ch.. He was a WWII US Army vet.

Survivors: daughters, Nancy L. Kinser of Richwood, Deborah L. Parsons of Ripley; sibs., Tom of Cottageville, Raymond C. of Ashland, KY, Okey of Tornado, Jerry of Pinch, Bobby J. of Charleston, Nelle Moore of Alum Creek; eight grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren.

MAXINE D. SLONE, 96, Columbus, OH, formerly of Huntington, & Logan, died Th., July 8, 2010, in Franklin Woods Nursing Home, Columbus, OH;  born June 2, 1914, in Louisa, KY, dau. of the late John R. & Merle Hannah Daniels; also predeceased by: husband, Orland Slone; sis.-in-law, Louise Daniels. 

A graduate of MU; member of Harmony UMC; retired teacher from Cabell & Logan Counties BOE.
